Introduction to Particle Health

Particle's mission statement and an overview of its supported data sources, modalities, platform, solutions and use cases.

Mission

Our mission is to unlock the power of medical records in an intelligent platform that focuses health back on the patient.

Data Sources

Particle connects to all three nationwide health information networks (NHINs) to offer our customers the most comprehensive clinical data, with access to about 90% of electronic health records (EHRs) via a single API.

Particle additionally partners with the state health information exchange (HIEs) Healthix, which serves the the downstate New York, including New York City and Long Island. Healthix provides access to all organizations connected to the statewide health information network for New York (SHIN-NY). We also partner with Manifest MedEx, serving the California population and providing robust and comprehensive ADT data in a key geographical area.

Via its connection to the Surescripts network, Particle retrieves medication prescription and medication fill data for patients from pharmacies and pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs).

Modalities

API Platform

Particle's single, simple and secure API platform enables customers to seamlessly integrate data from Particle (clinical, medication, ADTs) into their own systems and downstream workflows.

UI

Particle provides access to all of its product solutions through a User Interface that requires no integration with Particle. Those customers who want to build their own, custom user interface can do so via APIs that power Particle's own UI.

EHR

Particle supports customer Electronic Health Record (EHR) integrations e.g. via point-to-point VPN in HL7 for specific customers upon request. Out-of-the-box EHR integrations are not supported.

Insights Platform

Patient Linking

Particle ensures all data is associated with the correct patient via our eMPI (electronic Master Patient Index) once records are found on the networks.

Record Validation

Particle validates records received from the networks and EHRs against the requested information received from customers, verifying that the requested patient demographics match the retrieved patient demographics.

Facility Mapping

Particle leverages third-party datasets to verify that facility and provider identification data is accurate and consistent, enabling better tracking of where patients receive care for referrals, specialist visits, and emergency encounters.

Parsing

Particle uses its own in-house data parsing solution that provides complete visibility into and control over the conversion of clinical data found in C-CDAs into other data formats. Our parsing transforms data into Particle’s own, internal data model, both optimizing for data preservation and timely transformation and providing flexibility with data outputs.

Imputation

Particle’s imputation engine allows us to connect and enrich clinical data across records. Clinical records are pulled from a vast ecosystem of providers and EHRs, leading to variability in clinical coding systems and data gaps. As Particle encounters a missing clinical code or description in one record, we are able to connect and enrich it using data from another record matching that clinical code or description. On average, the imputation engine reduces data gaps from 50 to 17 percent.

Deduplication

Particle's data deduplication capability eliminates redundant data in order to reduce noise and make our datasets more actionable and easier to ingest, reducing duplicative data by up to 90%.

Normalization

Particle's data normalization capability standardizes structured clinical codes and descriptions into easily understood clinical concepts for labs, medications, problems, and procedure data. Normalized data sets enable customers to more easily work with data sets across a variety of sources, and opens up the opportunity for machine learning initiatives.

Deltas

Particle's deltas functionality allows customers to filter and access only the net new patient information since the previous time that patient was queried. This capability not only improves efficiency by reducing both data processing and data transmission turn-around-times, but also ensures data integrity, making it easier to track incremental data changes and prevent errors in patient care.

Data Formats

Particle provides its customers with flexible data format outputs, including C-CDAs, FHIR, Flat JSON, Parquet and Tuva schema.

Solutions

Snapshot

Particle's Snapshot solution gives Value Based Care providers and Payers access to a patient's most relevant and comprehensive clinical history. It surfaces an AI generated summary of hundreds, and at times thousands, of clinical records, reducing the burden of information overload. Snapshot enables providers to focus on patient care versus sift through messy historic records.

Signal

Particle's Signal solution provides Payers and Value Based Care providers with real-time alerting on high-risk patients that enables the optimization of care. It helps providers deal with data overload by only extracting and surfacing the most pertinent information needed to quickly take action and provide proper, effective treatment. Signal enables providers to focus on priority actions, reduce intervention delays and minimize the likelihood of complications.

Workbench

Particle's Workbench solution enables Developers to build solutions for providers, fueling custom analytics and cutting-edge innovations at scale. Customers can access patients' data in a variety of data formats: C-CDA, FHIR, Flat JSON, and Tuva's schema.

Navigator

Particle's Navigator solution supplies Health Systems with their patients’ care journey insights. It uncovers how patients are moving through - or out of - a given network in real time. Navigator enables customers to strategically reach patients and provide them with the care they need, when they need it, in their own network.
